Playing Madame at The Poetry Brothel Hastings has proved to be an unexpected pleasure. It’s an unusual, self-appointed role, as I still perform poetry as part of the act, occasionally will do 1-2-1 (or group) readings.
We have developed a great rotating cast of local and invited performers interested in our Literary Cabaret, which includes poetry, spoken word, music and burlesque.
The nights are themed, often related to the seasons and run on a wing-and-a-prayer. We have returning regulars, and new to us visitors to Hastings looking for something fun to do on a Saturday night.
Our performers are a mix of people we find, people we like and people who find us. We are trans, non-binary and queer inclusive and our performers bring a wide variety of work to the brothel.
One of the biggest misconceptions is that our performers all write erotic poetry. We don’t not write erotic poetry but we are more interested in writing and performing and the ways in which intimate readings and multi-sensory readings can be deeply satisfying for both performers and audiences.
Our next event is on May 3rd….. themed FERAL……. and the attached image is a lovely snarly video frame capture of me at our previous HUNGER event by Immo Horn.
